Crane Operator

We are currently looking for a Crane Operator to join our team.

Job duties and responsibilities include:

Manipulate or depress hand and/or foot controls including pedals, levers and buttons to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal and/or hand signal instructions.

  • Observe load hookup and determine safety of load.
  • Direct the placing of cribbing for outrigger to prevent capsizing.
  • Perform preventative maintenance – clean, lubricate and maintain crane and hoisting mechanism.
  • Inspect crane daily for defective parts and record date and malfunction in a log.
  • Read and interpret the load charts to determine the safe operating capacity.
  • Direct the set up and dismantling of the crane
  • Must also be able to drive pile.

The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of computerized mobile cranes.

Principal Accountabilities (Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract) * Operate mobile crane and move materials to various locations in a safe and effective manner * Inspect, rig, and ensure that rigging applications are configured in accordance with the load chart and manufacturer guidelines * Inspect, clean, and perform operator level maintenance on equipment in accordance with standards * Closely interact with company employees for movement of materials and equipment * Perform daily safety checks to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition * Follow related safety regulations, contract requirements, company policies, and operating procedures * Complete necessary documentation, reporting, and limited office duties * Ability to help write lift plans as needed * Will be required to participate in steel erection activities if crane operator work is slow or finished on project. * Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills * Knowledge of equipment safety, maintenance, and storage * Analytical and problem-solving skills * Ability to work with limited supervision * Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently in order to understand equipment load charts, prepare written orders, read safety topics, etc. * Additional knowledge and skill requirements may vary by assignment

Experience & Education * Minimum two (2) years of verifiable experience operating cranes * High School Diploma or equivalent * Valid driver’s license * Equipment Operator training and certificate from National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), verifiable military or civilian Equipment Operator training from construction field, or related certification issued by a previous employer * Ability to obtain, through evaluation, the certification to operate computerized mobile cranes up to one hundred and sixty (160) tons * Additional experience and education requirements may vary by assignment

Physical Requirements/Working Environment * Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds, bend, stoop, and work safely around equipment, materials, supplies, and other items to be handled * Long hours if required * Personnel should be aware of moving from project to project on short notice Travel * Ability to travel out of state as needed.
